Products are usually modeled in a design center. Software for design include Adobe Illustrator and Solidworks. Also simulation of manufacturing processes come into play as well because we tend to design for manufacturability (DFM). We want to make sure we can build what we design. The video shows a simulation of how a CNC mill would use end mills to cut away aluminum to make a part. It gives the product designer an opportunity to see if areas of the part might not be machinable and if there might be part collisions with tooling.
